With the sun making a rare appearance I've ditched hot drinks for something more refreshing - cold brewed teas. In an attempt to increase my water intake I've made it my nightly ritual to fill a big bottle with water, pop a fruity teabag or two in (one per 750ml is just about right, I've found) and let it brew overnight in the fridge. Brewing teas with cold water gives them an entirely different taste. I sometimes find warm fruit or herbal teas quite bitter, sometimes leaving my throat feeling a bit dry but cold brewed teas are sweeter, smoother and really quench your thirst!
It all started with my love of Twinings Peach & Cherry Blossom Green Tea, so I couldn't be more excited when Twinings got in touch and offered me some of their yummy teas from the Herbal Sensations range to try out and mmm, they were good! Here's my thoughts on each of the flavours I tried...
RASPBERRY & DRAGON FRUIT SENSATION*
Described as having a 'tart sweetness' I wasn't sure I would like this tea despite it smelling delicious (see above about my dislike of bitterness!) but although I didn't enjoy it hot, this was my favourite of the three cold brewed. It has such a fruity, zingy taste and is very easy to drink - I can easily drink a litre of this without thinking!
DOUBLE MINT SENSATION*
YUM! This tea is equally as good hot and cold, and I can see myself drinking it all year round. I love it hot, as the warm menthol taste makes my throat and airways feel clear (good if you're suffering from a cold!) and as a cold drink it's so fresh and energising - it does a great job of waking me up in the morning.
CAMOMILE & MAPLE SENSATION*
I'm still a bit undecided on this tea. It's very sweet and almost tastes like caramel, usually something that I love but I'm not too keen on camomile or maple, so I usually don't manage to finish a full mug of this! That being said, it did satisfy my cravings for something sweet and sugary a few nights ago.
I've really enjoyed these teas, and can't sing enough praise for how much cold brewed teas have helped my water intake (and they're so much healthier than sugar loaded squash!) over the past few weeks. I can't wait to try out the Lime & Ginger Sensation flavour next!
How do you like your tea? Have you tried it cold brewed?
Yum I've never thought of putting fruit teas in the fridge over night to brew! I'll be trying it tonight! I always have good intentions of drinking green tea or fruit tea but I can never finish a mug either. Maybe cold brewing will be the way forward! x
ReplyDeleteI think it definitely is! I never, ever finish a mug of tea but for some reason I can drink a few litres a day of this stuff cold brewed! x
DeleteI'm not a fan of hot tea to be honest, but these cold teas seem like a great idea. I've been looking for something refreshing that isn't boring like water :)

These teas look absolutely delicious! Twinings always brings out interesting flavours and this selection is no different. The Chamomile and Maple Sensation is definitely one I would try. Leaving tea in the fridge over night to brew is a great idea and very refreshing for the hot summer months.

Oh wow, I never thought of cold brewing tea! I often drink them after brewing with hot water and allowing it to reach room temperature. I will definitely be trying this! xx
ReplyDeleteI always let my warm tea reach room temperature too, but they still have that bitter taste sometimes! Definitely give it a try, they taste so much nicer! x

I love the idea of cold brewing teas overnight! I'm gonna try it soon for definite. I love the twinings peach & cherry blossom green tea so will give it a whirl with that :) xx
ReplyDeleteHandy tip is to tie a bit of thread around the corner of the tea bag so that you can dunk it in your bottle overnight and then re-use the bottle after removing the tea bag! No idea why some tea bags don't have strings, grr! x
Deletethis looks delicious! xx
ReplyDeleteI hate warm tea but love cold tea, never actually thought about doing it in the fridge over night though! Thanks for the tip :) X
ReplyDeleteOoh I've never even considered cold brewed tea but it sounds like a really good idea! I quite often find them a little bitter as well so this could be a solution :) xx

Such a good idea! x
ReplyDeleteLooks so yummy! I definitely need to try some chilled herbal teas xx
ReplyDeleteOooh I love your pics. I also find fruit tea a bit bitter and they always smell SO much better than they taste.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely try this out, but probably won't look as pretty as yours as they'll just go in a big Volvic bottle. Will be good to try and kick the old Diet Coke habit too!

Thank you! The majority of the time I drink mine from a big Volvic bottle too, don't worry! ;) Although I'm convinced they taste nicer from the little glass milk bottle...!
DeleteHope you enjoy! :) x

ReplyDeleteI've only recently started drinking herbal teas but I'd never thought of having them cold, will definitely be giving that a try!
