I know quite a few of my readers are from Glasgow so I thought I'd share with you all my favourite restaurant - Bath St Pony - which as the name suggests, is on Bath Street. Bath St Pony is both a restaurant and a cocktail bar and in my experience it takes a lot to do both well, but this place does!
The cocktails may be a little bit pricey (although my favourite, The Cheekiest of Vimtos, and many more are marked with a little pony on the menu meaning it's always half price!) but the bar staff know what they're doing and each cocktail I've tried - and that's a lot - has been seriously good. They also offer a cocktail of the week and if there's a cocktail you fancy that's not on the list they'll mix one up for you. Impressive!
Their food is very well priced with an Express Pony menu run throughout the day offering 2 courses for just £8.95 and an evening menu offering 2 courses for £12.95. The food is definitely some of the best I've eaten, and I would actually rate it better than some places where I've paid over £12 for a main course alone! There's a huge selection of dishes on the menu. Plenty of meat, lots of fish and a good variety of dishes (ie not just pasta or a veggie burger!) for vegetarians like myself. On this occasion I had mozzarella in carozza served with an orange marmalade followed by wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil. Both were absolutely delicious. I eat a lot of risotto and this one is the best I've had - and look at that tiny little almost-microscopic mushroom too! I've never quite been able to squeeze in a dessert (they offer a weekly cheesecake which always sounds SO good!) but that usually doesn't stop me ordering another cocktail to finish off the meal.
If you're in Glasgow then you honestly must visit this place. And if you're feeling nice then maybe you'll invite me along too?! Ha! I'd eat here every night if I could.
hmmm do you have any good recommendations for Edinburgh? x
