15 facts about milo

I know that a lot of you are curious about my 6 month old african pygmy hedgehog Milo, so I thought a little facts post would be a good twist on the 'numerous facts about me' posts that everyone is doing at the moment! Milo's growing up so quickly and he's such a character, hopefully this post will give you an idea of what he's like to look after...

1. I eat a diet of cat biscuits, live mealworms - which make my Mummy squirm - and sometimes I get treats like strawberries and scrambled egg.

2. When I was little I lost lots of my baby spikes and grew big boy spikes. This is called quilling and it made me really, really grumpy and itchy. I hissed a lot.

3. I like to run in my wheel all through the night when everyone else is sleeping. Hedgehogs like me often run up to 6 miles per night!

4. After all that running at night I sleep all day long and don't like being disturbed - unless you're going to feed me some mealworms! They're my favourite.

5. My poops are scarily big but luckily I'm (almost) litter trained.

6. When I taste or smell something that's really yummy I anoint. This means I roll around licking my body and cover myself in foamy saliva. Mummy says it's very funny and I look like I'm crazy when I do this.

7. I have an obsession with towels and like to chew them. Sometimes they make me anoint.

8. Mummy had to buy me a special pet radiator and thermostat for my home so that it doesn't get too cold, because if it does I would hibernate which is very bad and life threatening.

9. I'm lactose intolerant. Lots of people don't know this and feed wild hedgehogs milk which is very bad for them. They like water and cat biscuits too!

10. Every night, no matter how late Mummy stays up, I will sit in my bed and hide until all the lights are turned out before coming out to play on my wheel. If the lights go back on I run away again! I like hiding.

11. I live my own big wooden vivarium with a wheel, a bed and some toys.

12. I go for baths every week or so. Some hedgehogs on YouTube can swim on their backs but I've not tried yet because Mummy is too scared of putting me in deep water because I'm only little!

13. If you make me angry I'll stand all my spikes up and make myself really prickly. Sometimes I'll roll into a ball to protect myself too. Otherwise I smooth my spikes down and I just feel similar to a gentle hairbrush. Some people are scared to touch me incase I hurt them but unless you annoy me I'm not that prickly!

14. I don't like people touching my spikes. It makes me grumpy and want you to leave me alone.

15. Mummy didn't want me to tell you this because it makes her embarrassed, but I'm a typical teenage boy and she always catches me doing naughty stuff to myself!
