However atfter what felt like every girl on my Facebook posted cute holiday snaps with their boyfriend, or announced their pregnancy, engagement or exciting new relationship last night, I did feel a slight pang of sadness. But then I had a long hard think to myself (and pictured my BFF and I in those holiday snaps instead, having just as much fun!) and made a list of all the things I love about being single.
Because hey, being single isn't that bad after all.
001. The whole bed is yours. Starfish, use all the pillows for yourself and wrap yourself up in the entire duvet as often as you like, because there isn't anyone there to complain.
002. You can wear that sexy figure hugging dress or that top that shows off your cleavage and makes you feel great out on your girls night out without a certain someone getting all antsy.
003. And you don't spend a lot of the time feeling as though you're crazy, feel the need to Facebook stalk, or declare hate on girls you haven't even met for, lets face it, stupid reasons. Why so stressful?
004. You know those days where shaving your legs just seems like too much effort? Don't bother.
005. Oh, and those embarrassing - and definitely not sexy or flattering - pyjamas hidden at the back of your wardrobe? Wear them until your heart's content.
006. No more movie nights filled with guns, gangsters and action. Feel free to put your feet up, open that tub of Ben and Jerrys (which you no longer need to share), put on that chick flick or swoon over Ryan Gosling as much as you want.
007. The toilet seat resumes it's correct position, and you no longer risk falling down it everytime you assume it's where it should be and it isn't.
008. You don't have to check in with anyone, or interrupt lunch with your friends to reply to his texts every 5 minutes to prevent him from thinking you've been abducted by aliens or something just as awful. Put the phone down and relax.
009. Similar to my last point, you don't have to consider his feelings with every little thing you do, so you can be as spontaneous as you like and do whatever you want, when you want.
010. And finally. You see that hot guy across the bar? You can look, and you can flirt with him too!
After some of the comments, I thought I would mention that this list isn't about my most recent ex (come on, a list of bullet points about our relationship? I'm not that cruel), and are just about my experiences with relationships in general.
I LOVE this post and the photo is excellent.... you still have 9ne stalker male in your life ;-) Chin up xx
ReplyDeleteI feel the same, had my stress at the start of the year and I'm much happier now that I can just do whatever I like without checking in with someone. I think your 20s are the best years where you have a bit of money so you can travel and go out and have fun without commitment xx
ReplyDeleteMate, as much as it hurts I can see you have made the right decision. Because bar the last one, I can do all that with Dey in my life. Which means I think I have found the right one, you deserve the right one, so bloody hold out for him xx
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I'm with somebody but I must admit as much as i dont miss alot of the things on this list - I DO MISS STARFISHING THE BED!! And also a full nights sleep with no snoring ;) xx
ReplyDeleteSome of those make me laugh - reason number one is exactly why I don't wish to live with my boyfriend. I enjoy having my bed all to myself! And Ben and Jerry is NOT made for sharing!

Love it. After gushing about how I was finally happy with my on/off dude on my blog a wee while ago, and then BOOKING A HOLIDAY for us both, he ended it. I've been feeling pretty shitty for weeks but these last couple of weekends have reminded me of why I love answering to no-one and flirting away with all the hot boys I see. No stress, no angst, just fun with good friends who love you for who you are. Hear hear pal. xxx
ReplyDeleteThat picture is amazing, perfect!

Studs and Dreams
Me & my boyfriend broke up around Valentines so it was a hard couple of months but since then I've achieved more than I ever thought I could, by myself, single! So proud. Enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteBeing single IS fun. I'm glad you're finding happiness on your own :) without your ex... who sounds like he was no good for you. It's great being able to be a bit more selfish, and also getting to spend more time with your besties! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post! Good on you for finding your feet as a single lady so quickly! :)

Reading this post tells me that you were right to end your relationship, most of these points should apply if you're in a good, trusting relationship. I'm married and do pretty much all of these points, except for number 1, I sometimes wish for number 1! xx

I agree with all of these! Going through a break-up is painful, but not being stressed about him anymore is actually worth it! Starfishing in bed is also the best feeling ever!

I've never been in a relationship before, sometimes I wish I had someone in my life but then other times I just love being on my own and independent, not having to answer to anyone or to make sacrifices for anyone.
ReplyDeleteSo true! I also like to add, you never have to consider someone else's music tastes when driving. It can be all Taylor Swift all the time and no one can complain! (Or whomever you like.)

This is so true! I'm just about to go out for a drive and I think I'll play the cheesiest, guilty-pleasure songs I own! x
DeleteTotally agree with these! Especially the pyjama one! x
ReplyDeleteI adore this list, I wish I got the whole bed & Ben & Jerry's tub to myself ;) xx
ReplyDeleteAs a long-time member of the Single Ladies club this post definitely cheered me up, nice to read about the advantages of not being in a relationship for once! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHa, I love these! I love my comfy jammies way too much to give up :) xx

ReplyDeleteI've been single for almost three years now and honestly wouldn't have it any other way. I have high standards and believe the right guy wouldn't want me to check in with him or be bothered by a sexy dress :P
ReplyDeleteI'm single too, and I love it! No stress and I do love how I can flirt with whomever and just have fun!
